Everyone in the world has a dream and fulfilling that dream could be hard to achieve, but not if you have the right mind set and goals. WNBA (Woman’s National Basketball Association) star Tamika Catchings worked her way up in her basketball career by never losing site of the prize. She is now the star leader on the Indiana Fever and has been a dominating forward and wears jersey number 24.

Catchings journey began when she graduated from Duncanville High School in Duncanville Texas. She then attended the University of Tennessee where she majored in sport studies and minored in business.

After college was said and done, she got drafted into the WNBA. She was drafted first round, third pick and from that day forward called herself an Indiana Hoosier.

“I was so excited when I got drafted in the WNBA because I tore my ACL my senior year in college, so just getting that injury and being drafted at the same time was a huge deal,” Catchings said.

She has played for the Indianapolis Fever for six years now and has loved every minute of it here in Indy.

“What I like best about Indiana is the loyal fans, because that is what makes the games so fun,” Catchings said.

She has come a long way from Texas and has been very successful in doing so.

“I believe the reason that I am successful today is the will and desire to be the best that I can be,” Catchings said.

Catchings is really excited for this up coming season starting the summer of 2008.

“I am really excited to be back on the court this season, since I tore my Achilles last season,” Catchings said.

The WNBA lifestyle can be hard just like all the other professional sports, but Catchings does not have a problem with basketball affecting her personal life.

“The lifestyle is fun; it’s like getting paid to go to gym class,” Catchings said.

She might like the WNBA lifestyle, but she does agree that going oversees in the off-season is a lot harder.

“The WNBA is really demanding at times being on the road, but going oversees in the off-season makes everything a lot more difficult,” Catchings said.

Catchings has many loyal fans, but her biggest fans are among her family.

“My biggest fans are my little sister and nephew,” Catchings said.

The Fever should have a great upcoming season, but first they need to find a new head coach because the position has yet to be filled.

“My personal goal for this upcoming season is to be a better leader and having a new coach will help,” Catchings said.

She believes anything is possible and that any one that has a goal can achieve it no matter what the limit is.

“Set your goals and work really hard to achieve them and your dream will come true,” Catchings said.

Catchings is a true star of the WNBA and relies on her true talent and faith to bring her through all of her obstacles that she comes up against as a professional athlete. She also depends on her family, friends, and teammates to help her overcome her injuries in her basketball career.
