veryone has been told to share since they were little. As one grows older they learn to share more important things. There is one thing in particular that is in great abundance but, at the same time there is very little of. The name of this much needed substance is blood.
Imagine yourself walking into a hospital and seeing a small child who has no energy because they were born with abnormal blood cells. This child relies on blood donated from others in order to live a normal life.
Though some people give blood once in a while, the supply is always in need of replenishment. Every two seconds someone needs blood and we are not meeting that requirement.
Many people are eligible to give blood, but they look past the issue. Saying that someone else will do the job that you should be doing is an excuse. Though one may have healthy blood, someone else out there does not and they need your help.
Many students do not understand the importance of giving blood, but there are a few students who do.
"It is important to give blood because you save someone’s life," senior Charles White said.
Most students share that opinion.
"I feel that giving blood is very important, and people who are eligible should donate often because every second someone needs blood," senior Devon Huff said. "Someday you could need it."
Not only does giving blood save a life, but it gives you self-pride because you did a good deed.
Many people are afraid to give blood, but when you think about all of the positive things that come from it, giving blood seems better than winning the lottery.
Every time you donate blood you save a life. The one pint of blood that you give can save up to three lives.
The only thing stopping people from giving blood is the fear of needles or the excuse of being too busy.
"Giving blood is a great donation. You have the opportunity to help a life," senior Erika Barron said.
Take a chance and give blood on November 5, here at school. Donating blood takes up about an hour of your time, but gives someone else back the hours of life that they might have lost.
