This month’s senior spotlight is Whitney Barwick. Whitney’s parents are Susan and Craig Barwick; she has one “brother” named Bobby Mangrum. He stays with the Barwicks and “he won’t leave,” said Whitney.

When it comes to school organizations, Whitney is involved with Key Club, Beta Club and the Show-Me Band. She has also done Color-Guard.

Whitney’s hobbies are dancing, hanging out with friends and “sleeping when I can,” said Whitney, laughing.

Whitney has been dancing for 15 years. She does many different type of dance, including tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, clog and “open” tricks.

After high school Whitney said, “One thing I’ll miss is all my friends and the band trips...but don’t get caught up in the drama, it’s not worth it.”

“I am going to college. I want to go to Florida State but if my esophogus doesn’t get better, TRCC or bust,” said Whitney, laughing.

“If I could have any super power I would want to shoot spaghetti out of my finger so when someone made me mad I could squirt spagetti on them and they would have no come back,” said Barwick.

One person that has influced Whitney is her dance instructor in Jonesboro, Chali Jennys.

“She flys in once a month from L.A. just to work with us. After she graduated high school she went straight to L.A. Now she has worked with people like Maroon 5, Usher and Gloria Gaylor. The last thing she danced on for TV was The Victoria Secret Runway Show and danced with Justin Timberlake. She is amazing and has made a huge difference in my dancing career--just knowing that anyone can do anything that they put there mind to,” said Barwick.

“My studio competed at Talent on Parade Nationals in Hot Springs, Arkansas and won top overrall and best-spirted. I love the way I feel when I perform for others and see them enjoying my performance. Life goes by so fast and when I dance I feel every second of life passing by,” said Whitney.

A little advice for underclassmen, “Don’t waste your time trying to impress others. The only person you need to impress is yourself.”
