Both the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams are preparing for their upcoming season. Tryouts will continue next week. The varsity team has already begun practices on Saturdays.

They hope to continue playing practice games throughout the new year to be ready for the opening season. At the moment, JV and varsity coaches are holding fundraisers for the baseball program so they can buy better equipment.

They will hold one of these fundraisers next Wednesday at the Souplantation restaurant on San Vicente. “Everyone should come out to Souplantation and enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet while supporting our baseball program,” said sophomore Ryan Mortimer.

They are also putting together a food packing drive on Dec. 20 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. to help underprivileged families.

“We need to help the underprivileged,” said senior Peter Aguilera. “A lot of people should come out for support.”

This year the teams’ expectations are very high. “I expect to win at least ten games and make the playoffs,” said Coach Kurt Romo.

“I always think positively, so I can have a positive attitude towards the team,” said Coach Derrick Hill. “When the season comes around, I think we will do well.”

“Some of the main objectives are team work and dedication,” said Hill. The new coaches are volunteering to come and help out with the baseball programs.

“I decided to come to Uni and help out because I love the game of baseball and the new players know how to play the game,” said JV Coach Jamal Fort.
