Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a bill April 23rd that requires police in the state to determine whether a person resides in the United States legally.

The New Arizona Immigration Bill seems to be racist because it profiles a certain ethnic group. Arizona’s law orders immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there is reason to suspect they are in the United States illegally.

How are Arizona police officers going to be trained to determine someone’s legal status? There will be no flashing neon lights pointing to someone telling officers, “Look at me! I don’t have papers!”
Essentially, police officers can now stop anyone they please if they have a reason to doubt their status. Moreover, this bill will only encourage police officers to abuse their power and stop people whenever and wherever they feel the desire.

The bill is considered to be among the toughest immigration measures in the nation. Supporters say the measure is needed to fill a void left by the federal government’s failure to enforce its immigration law. Furthermore, they say a harsher plan will help ease the flow of illegal immigration.

Amnesty should be given to those immigrants who are already here, and the authorities should find a better way to control the flow of illegal immigration in the future.

People should think twice before deciding to hire baby sitters, housekeepers, and gardeners.
Immigrants take these jobs whenever they can, because they are willing to work in return for so little because Americans refuse to take such jobs. Our country was built on immigrants.
