Dear Feature Editor Era Dykhyne:

Your editorial in last week’s paper expressed your frustration with the schedule and class programming.

I am not sure why you also took the opportunity to disparage the Art Department with phrases such as "the art class of your nightmares" and "the pottery class you simply can’t live without." Theses statements were not necessary to make your point.

Uni has one of the strongest art departments in the District, submitting more AP portfolios than any other school in the state, and it is the only school in LAUSD to offer all three AP Studio Art portfolio classes.

It is unfortunate to see an editor of what I believe is the finest student newspaper in LAUSD resort to insulting and hostile comments about a department.

If you are frustrated at the schedule, address your concerns to Mr. Bauer and District 3 administration, as the change was made at their direction. However, the "emaciated" 6 period day is the schedule most of LAUSD is on. Class changes and scheduling conflicts have been a problem throughout my 35 years with the District, but more severely in recent years.

I will hope to see an apology in the paper, and perhaps you might care to learn more about our art program before demeaning it.
