The Big Bang Theory is back on television screens for its fifth season and viewers say it’s about time. Season 4 left fans awestruck; the shocking finale involved Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Raj’s (Kunal Nayyar) night together. Fans were left hanging regarding Leonard’s (Johnny Galecki) relationship with Priya (Aarti Mann) after finding out that she’s decided to move back to India. The last episode “The Roommate Transmogrification” complicated the relationship between the gang and created a mess that season 5 now must untangle.
The Big Bang Theory follows two roommate geniuses, Dr. Leonard Hofstadter and Dr. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), working at the California Institute of Technology and their adventures with their neighbor, an aspiring actress named Penny, and their equally geeky friends Howard Wolowitz and Rajesh Koothrappali. Throughout the show the intellect and social awkwardness of the guys is juxtaposed for comic effect with Penny’s common sense and social skills.
During its four previous seasons The Big Bang Theory has had high ratings and support from intrigued fans with its unexpected and humorous episodes. This season is no different; the show is averaging 13.89 million viewers per episode, which is an increase of 7% from last year’s numbers.
While the show has recently focused on the characters’ love lives, creator Bill Prady has stated that the show will cool things down and bring back the nerdy comedy that it is known for. Sure, there are plenty of jokes that seem pretty stereotypical but far from making fun of their geekiness, the writers are praising these guys. They’re smart, successful and while their awkwardness can get a little irritating they’re extremely likable. As of now the episodes have delivered as promised with their amusing storylines and the incorporation of the hilarious Amy Farrah Fowler as a recurring character.
Of course the one that pulls it all together is Dr. Sheldon Cooper. His cluelessness and mischievous antics make him the spotlight of the show, especially in last week’s Halloween episode. So what are you waiting for? Set a reminder on your phone to tune into CBS every Thursday at 8 p.m. and do not miss season 5 of The Big Bang Theory.
