Key Club will hold an Autistic Awareness Movie Night Jan. 13 at President Darci Anderson’s house. Forrest Gump and Rain Man will be shown at this members only event in an effort to create an enjoyable and educational evening.

Acting Against Autism is the Governor’s Project for the Illinois-Eastern Iowa Key Club District. Autism is a developmental disorder that manifests in children before the age of three.

Children with autism are shy, preferring solitary activities rather than social interaction, resulting in poor social and communication skills.

By far the fastest growing developmental disability, autism affects 1-1.5 million Americans, or 1 in 150 births.

The goal of the I-I District is to raise awareness of this disorder and support autistic organizations through donations, such as the national foundation, Cure Autism Now (CAN).

Students interested in finding out more about autism or in making a donation should visit the CAN organization’s home page at www. autismspeaks.org.

For any students interested in other Key Club activities such as this, the last day to join Key Club is Wednesday, Dec. 19. See Mrs. Schulz in Room 232 to sign up.
