Ben Taylor, senior, assists with a lesson at Cooke School.
“I’m considering secondary education now,” commented Ben Taylor, a senior in Mr. Evan Massey’s Community Studies class. Taylor works at Cooke School in Mrs. Jodi Johnson’s third grade class.

Taylor admitted that he was first interested in the class because he would not have homework, but after working with the third graders, he realized that the course offered much more than that.

“I teach their science class and grade a lot of papers,” Taylor mentioned. He had to fill out a resume that told about his interests and skills. He was surprised by his placement, but he really enjoys interacting with the children at Cooke.

Taylor said that his placement is mainly about educating elementary children, but he likes to think that he and the teacher are preparing them for a bright future and keeping them out of trouble.

Taylor explained that he thinks that a community service requirement for graduation would be a good idea because giving back to society would reward high school students.

Getting out of school during fourth block is a big perk of the class, but he would recommend Community Studies because the course “gives you extra knowledge in areas of work that you wouldn’t know before being put into the actual class. The kids are teaching me more than I could’ve ever expected.”
