Planning on staying up all night playing video games? Got a big term paper due tomorrow? Feel the need for a quick boost in the morning? Reach for an energy drink. Keep in mind, energy drinks offer a rush of energy, but they can be harmful. Pregnant women should not consume energy drinks, as they could cause complications with the birth. They should not be drunk by children because it could make them anxious. Those sensitive to caffeine should definitely stay away due to the very high amount in the drinks.

Energy drinks seem to be on rise with the general public. With many people leaving coffee for the new wave of caffeine sodas, the market is flooded with choices. The questions of which one packs the best kick or taste come to mind. Here’s a quick look at five of the more popular ones.

MDX

MDX is Mountain Dew’s second energy drink release. Following in the footsteps of Mountain Dew and Amp, MDX appears with a slime-green color and citrus taste. But how much energy does it pack? A mild rush for a couple hours is all that will come of this energy drink. This is nothing more then overpriced Mountain Dew.

Red Bull

These tiny silver bullets claim to “give you wings.” The 8-oz can packs quite a punch for their size, with a great taste to back it up. This drink has been around for almost twenty years and doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.

Vault

“Drinks like a soda, kicks like an energy drink.” That is the motto for this energy drink from Coke. Unlike most energy drinks, this one was built for bulk. Available in 2-liters and 20-ounce bottles, it takes a lot for this drink to compete with others.

Burn

A high-powered energy drink with a citrus taste to help it go down smooth. Burn has hit the market and claims to be the most powerful drink available. While that is a matter of opinion, this drink offers a rush of energy like no other.

Bawls

Saving the best for last, Bawls is the key choice of late-night gamers. One look at the bottle shows just how unique this drink is. Bawls come in a blue, glass bottle with bumps around the edge to prevent slipping. Bawls contains twice as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, a fact to back up their statement, “Your coffee is weak.” Be on the look out for SnoBawls slushies at 7/11 and limited edition PaintBawls.
