This year’s swimming team may not bring the numbers but sure bring the power. Even though compared to the swimming teams of other, more competitive schools, Dallas High School still has high hopes for its more than twenty swimmers that they have his year.
Teri Braun, a junior at Dallas High School said the team will surely do great this year and will make their mark against the coming competition. “This year, we have less inexperienced people than we did last year,” said Braun
Also along with the changes of the New Year, also brings new captains, seniors Spencer James and Jennifer Cortez. Co-captain Cortez said that with so few swimmers, the coaches have been pushing them really hard in order to compete with the competition. “Last year was good, it was a lot harder than the year before because the coach upped the practices and she did it again this year as well,” said Cortez. She also stated that with the added pressure of this year, she has set personal goals for herself as well. “I plan to improve on my 50 meter free time. I’ll try for 30 this year but don’t know if I will,” said Cortez.
Co-Captain Spenser James stated that this year looks promising and will add its own level of competitiveness against the other well-numbered teams. “So far this year is going pretty strong, we did time trials and I was surprised, we did really good,” said James.
Even though there are few swimmers on this team, the captains believe that they will excel in individual events and do exceptionally well in relays as well. On a final note, James was happy to add that even with the few numbers that the spirits of the swimmers were up, and ready for any challenge ahead. “I would also like to see some more stretching this year,” said James.
