Cardozo Students Share PS3 Experiences

Monday, December 18, 2006 By Jake Sutera

Many stores in the Tri-State area kept their doors open late on Thursday November 16th to coincide with the release of the highly anticipated PS3. Some Cardozo students experienced first hand the hysteria created by the release of this new Sony console. Thomas Holzhauer, junior and avid gamer, had planned to wait online with his mother for the new system. He went to Target after school on Wednesday November 15th, and prepared to wait on line for more than a day for the midnight release party on Thursday night. When he arrived at Target, Thomas and his mother took the 10th and 11th spots on line. After about four hours, a man approached Holzhauer and offered money for his spot on line. After thinking about it, he realized the deal was too good to pass up. Upon returning home, he received a phone call from a man he met on the line. He told him that some people had left and that if he came back right away, he could be 15th on line. Knowing that Target had 15 available systems for sale, he raced back to the store at 10:00 p.m. where he took the 15th spot. After a few hours of sleep on the lawn chairs he had brought, he awoke to some disappointing news; a Target representative had come out and told them that there were only eight PS3s inside the store. Although very disappointed, Thomas realized he had received a fantastic deal. “I didn’t get the system, but neither did the guy that paid me for my spots on line. I’m going to buy a high definition television with the money I got, and I’ll get a PS3 in a few months.” Angel Rosario, junior, also waited on line overnight, but had a completely different experience. He was able to purchase a PS3, yet was upset when he brought it home. The system, he said, had unbelievable graphics, but a lot of glitches. “There were ridiculous loading times for the old games,” he said. He decided to return the console the day after he bought it. “I would definitely wait overnight again because I knew I had a warranty even if I didn’t like it.” The PS3 has swept the nation by storm and has taken Cardozo along with it.
