COD Classes: Getting A Taste Of College LifeTuesday, March 06, 2007 By Marc Barbers
Seniors and Juniors are taking college courses hosted at CV High School from COD. The classes that are offered are English 1A, Political Science and Speech. These classes are free to take and materials are provided for these students to have the experience of a college course. I asked students from 2007 and 2008 about what they think about taking college classes. These are the students that I have interviewed and this is what they think. Maria Mendez (07) - She is one of the students who is getting a taste on college classes and she said, “It was more challenging than I expected. Also I love expressing myself, because everyone is mature enough to speak.” Tony Ramirez (08) - is a Junior who is ahead and really taking a big step towards life. He says, “The classes are easy and free and the teachers are interesting.” Sergio Rubio (07) - a Senior experiencing the life of a college beginning. He says, “It is hard, but in the end it is all worth it.” Janae Alvarez (07) - says, “It is hard, but I am taking these classes because, to me its like a continuation of my AP classes.” The students will walk away from high school, not only with a diploma, but also up to six college credits. Knowing what these students had accomplished they now know what college taste like and now they all have a head start on their college credits. |
