As the 2006-2007 school year comes to an end, so do the numerous spring sports. State competitions have just ended or are just about to begin. The boys lacrosse team is doing very well this season with a record of 14-2 as of May 7. Six girls tennis players qualified for state after regionals on May 3 and 4. Boys track is rated ninth in the state and girls is rated sixth in the state. Girls lacrosse holds a record of 13-2 as of May 7, the best record in the history of Arapahoe. Tennis captains are seniors Lauren Craig, Katie Maxey and Lanie Pacetti. The team placed second at the regional tournament on May 3-4. State qualifiers competed on May 11-12. Qualifiers were freshman Sarah Ray, juniors Suzanne Chang, Jenny Morris and Lauren Stemper and seniors Lauren Craig and Katie Maxey. According to Pacetti, team members who have done the best this season are senior Lauren Craig and juniors Suzanne Chang, Molly Ray and Lauren Stemper. Swimming captains are seniors Aaron Kayen and Kieran McGuire and diving captain is senior Eric Wallace. A League qualifiers are freshmen Bryan Nelson and Kent Schnake, juniors Jeff Beckman and Kelsey Spurr and senior Bobby Luly. State competition begins May 18. Captains are seniors Brandon Chandler and Matt Pullara. State competition began on May 7 with a game against Cheyenne Mountain High School and will end May 19 with a game at Invesco Field. Sophomore Eirc Law scored 36 goals this season. As of May 7, boys lacrosse had won 14 games and only lost two. At the Librety Bell, senior Jason Woodland was selected the outstanding track athlete in class one. Boys captains are seniors Nick Webb and Jason Woodland and girls captains are seniors Denise Mattoon and Jo Walker. Boys track is currently rated ninth in the state and girls track is rated sixth. This season, Mattoon set the school shot put record of 41 feet and five and a half inches. Soccer captains are seniors Lauren Cavarra and Megan Flannery. State playoffs are May 22. “This year we’re doing a really good job of playing as a team,” Captains are seniors Aubrey Dreessen and Jenna and Larissa Hellemann. The team’s number one golfer is junior Leslie McGetrick and their number two golfer is freshman Sarah Moore. Lacrosse captains are seniors Chloe Adelmann, Melissa Bailey and Kristen Hosek. The girls hold a record of 13-2 as of May 7, the best record for girls lacrosse in the history of Arapahoe. Adelmann was awarded the title of Continental League co-player of the year and the entire team was Continental League Champions for the second year in a row. Captains are seniors David Runberg and Nick Whitcraft. The final baseball game was on May 5 against Denver East High School at Columbine High School. According to Whitcraft, freshman Brian Guymon and senior David Runberg were the top athletes this season. |
