Renovations set for major progress

Monday, May 19, 2003 By Jon Atwood

What’s next for phase three of renovations? Cafeteria and the Big Gym The cafeteria, as well as putting glass windows into the wall, will be getting a new sound system. The purpose of the wall, principal Don Weinheimer said, is to keep the sound within the cafeteria. “When people were testing, people would disturb them if they walk by,” Dr. Weinheimer said. According to Weinheimer, the bigger project will be in the kitchen. “We’re going to upgrade the storage area, freezer, oven, refrigerator, all that,” Weinheimer said. “That’s pretty extensive work.” According to Weinheimer, the cafeteria, as well as the main gym, will be completed by the fall. Yellow Hallway Two former foreign language rooms in the far wing of the yellow hallway (next to the orange hallway) will become science rooms next year, according to Weinheimer. Room will become a biology-physics lab, and room (directly across from it) will become a special education lab. Both rooms will be completed by November or December of next year. According to Weinheimer, the biology-physics lab will be designed to teach both biology and physics at the same time. According to biology teacher Demby Banbury, the biology-physics lab will be wireless, meaning there will be a cart of 15-16 laptops to use. The special education lab will be smaller and more handicap-accessible. Gray Hallway The first wing of the gray hallway (next to the red hallway) will be undergoing renovations on the odd-numbered side. The writing lab will become an ESL area and the LD offices will become will become the new writing lab. Beyond Next spring, the even classrooms of the gray hallway will be redone (though it is not determined what the changes will be) the main office will be expanded, and there will be construction of new visiting bleachers on the football field. In addition, the stairway intersecting the red and blue hallways will be turned into a ramp next summer.
