English teacher returns for book signing

Michelle Moran, the woman who seems to inspire all of her past students, returned once again to Rialto High where she once taught, to share her success. On February 5, this former English teacher signed books in the library for her most recently published work, Nefertiti: a novel. The library was decorated with Egyptian artwork provided by Mrs. Mount and her students, demonstrating their appreciation for Moran sharing her book, and for providing a great jumpstart for Read Across America. The CHEF Club catered the event, providing tastes of Egyptian cuisine, which were highly praised. Students, teachers and staff who attended the event not only got to have their books signed by the author, but they got the chance to participate in a question and answer session. Much was revealed about Moran’s past, including her literary ups and downs. She had been submitting her work to publishers since the age of twelve, finding that it was not so easy, and she had her share of failed attempts before her unfaltering dedication paid off. “I submitted my work probably 150 times and was denied every time,” said Moran. Out of college, Moran’s book, Jezebel, was published through a company that owns Random House, but the book was only ever published in German. Through all of the setbacks Moran encountered, husband, Mr. Carter, Economics teacher at RHS, remained supportive of his wife “emotionally and financially.” “This was always what she wanted to do,” said Carter. “I’m extremely proud and admiring of her success.” Moran is currently working on a sequel to Nefertiti. Although she loves writing, Moran has not yet ruled out a return to teaching. MichelleMoran.com
