Teague Lion Football: Rough Patch For the Lions

Since completing 2-A-Days in the gruesome Texas heat the Teague Lions are pumped up and ready for the season to be in full swing. This year the Lions are in District 20-2 along with Marlin, Rosebudd-Lott, Leon, Hearne, and Franklin. The Lions have chosen the Leon Cougars as their opponent to demolish for Homecoming. This year the lions have seniors: Deuntrae Mims #1, Doug Hurst #3, James Green #5, Centennial High #11, Jake Jones #12, Jacob Smith #33, Jeff Massey #57, Derek Hayes #67, Chandler Baggerly #70, Micheal Whittington #71, and Roy Vasquez #75 to lead the way to victory. Also on the Varsity Squad this year are juniors: Alejo Diaz#4, Renard Nemonds #9, Jordan Smith #26, Ben Black #37, Justin Flannery #53, Tevin Busby #60, Matthew Brook #63, Colton Brown #65, and Phillip Miller #77. The sophomores and freshman who complete the team are: Wade Venable #18, Jake Joplin #50, Larry Busby #7, and Ryan Lynch #51. Leading and taming the ferrous Lions this season is Head Coach Kevin Hayes. Assisting Coach Hayes this year are Taylor Sims, Chad Satterwhite, Mark Durham, Josh Jones, Roger Leija, Marvin Childs, Shaun Moore, Rick Remley, Kim Harris, and Derek Tyler. The Lions opened non-district play on Friday August 29, 2008 against the New Waverly Bulldogs. The Lions lost the game 33-20, but they put out a tremendous effort. The Lion then took on the Groesbeck Goats on Friday September 5, 2008. The Lions also dropped this game 38-21. Once again the Lions played great, but just came up short. Good Luck to the Lions!
