Wednesday, May 28, 2008 By Kasha Peters

Senior Emily Longmire is one of this week’s Student of the Week. She is the daughter of Sue and Greg Longmire. Emily’s favorite book is “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer and her favorite movie is “Across the Universe.” Emily was nominated as Student of the Week by Art Department teacher Mrs. Liz Schank. Schank nominated Emily because of her many long evening hours that she put in after school in order to work on a “special senior art project” for Holmen High School. Schank says, “Her dedication to this unique, artistic endeavor plays a major role in the completion of it.” Emily’s favorite part of her art class is that “it is the most relaxing part of my day.” Other activities she is involved in include: One by One, Renaissance, Student Council, Art Club and S.A.D.D. After high school Emily will be attending the University of Minnesota in the fall. A quote she would like to share with other students is, “The ones who find success are the ones too busy looking for it.” Kallie Mechling (senior) is also this week’s Student of the Week. She is the daughter of Bruce and Karen Mechling. Her advice for other students is to have fun in high school. “Don’t get caught up in all the drama.” Kallie was nominated as Student of the Week by Coach Wall, the softball coach. Wall says Kallie “has been a great attribute to the team’s overall success. Kallie is 6-1 this year as a pitcher. Kallie is also hitting .333 for the season. She has been a very consistent player both in practice and in games.” Kallie says her favorite thing about being a part of softball is “I love the girls and my coaches. We have so much fun.” Other activities she is involved in besides softball are DECA, basketball, and the American Red Cross. Her favorite movie is “Super Troopers.” After high school she will be going to Viterbo University and majoring in Elementary Education. She will also play softball at Viterbo.
