India.ArieTrue, Refreshing TalentMonday, April 07, 2008 By Becca P.
India.Arie claims she put a dot in between her first and last name to make herself notable. But one thing’s for sure: she didn’t need to. With an amazingly rich and textured voice and an undeniable talent for song writing, India will never be easily overlooked. India, who was born in Denver, Colorado, moved to Atlanta with her parents at the age of 13. It was there that she graduated high school and began playing guitar due to her mother’s encouragement. Her first album, Acoustic Soul, was released in 2001 after nearly two years of work. The single from the album, “Video,” received strong radio and club play. In 2002, India released her second album Voyage to India and followed in 2006 with the number one album, Testimony: Vol.1, Life and Relationship. India’s R&B and hip-hop style and inspirational lyrics are more than enough to put you in a good mood and relax you all at once. In songs like, “I Am Not My Hair,” and, “Video,” she sings of the true beauty in a woman. Songs such as “Wings of Forgiveness,” “There’s Hope,” and her cover of Don Henley’s, “Heart of the Matter,” are both uplifting and insightful. India’s graceful ability to see inside the heart of what is real and important in life is simply amazing. |
