Freedom Over BreakMonday, April 07, 2008 By Justine S.
Spring Break is right around the corner. I’m sure by this point many of you are planning out the last details of your trip. It may mean taking your first big trip without your parents. This is where the trip may take a negative turn. Being on your own somewhere warm with spring break fever may cause you to get carried away. It seems like the only focus of the trip is partying. One of the most popular spring break destinations is Cancun. Now, just taking a guess, but I’m going to say that many aren’t in the trip for the beautiful scenery. The drinking age is only 18 in Mexico, coincidence that it is a popular destination? I think not. Now, I’m not trying to say that everyone who wishes to go to Cancun have intentions of partying. Some students are completely responsible and aren’t interested in the partying aspect at all. They are the ones who could possibly handle a trip unsupervised. However, a great number of students couldn’t handle the responsibility to control themselves maturely. For many, spring break is just another excuse to party. I can’t change your mind but I can tell you to be smart. You don’t want to be calling your parents at two o’clock in the morning from miles away telling them that you are in jail. Try to be responsible and know that drinking isn’t the only way to have fun. If your parents are willing to give you freedom you need to be willing to be careful and responsible and that is a lot easier to do sober. |
