Clear Creek High School Water Polo Teams Sweep the Charger ChallengeSunday, October 12, 2008 By HiLife Staff
The Clear Creek High School Water Polo Girls and Boys teams took 1st place this weekend in the 2nd Annual Charger Challenge Tournament held at Clear Springs High School. Both teams opened the tournament against Galveston Ball. This was Galveston Ball’s first game since Hurricane Ike impacted the island. Galveston Ball made valiant efforts but ended up losing to the Creek girls with a score of 13 -5 and losing to the Creek boys 16-3. Creek’s next opponent was their district rival Clear Lake. The Creek girls beat Clear Lake with a score of 12- 3. The Creek boys defeated Clear Lake with a score of 8-4. The girls Championship game Saturday night was against St. Agnes. The girls beat St. Agnes 15-5. The boys Championship game featured Clear Creek against Cy-Springs with Creek Winning 11-5. The high scorers for the girl’s team for the tournament were Emma Alexander with 10 goals, Britty Rachner with 8 goals, Traci Williams with 6 goals, and Helena Terrell scoring 4 goals. Co-Captains Rebecca Moore and Britty Rachner led the team with 7 and 10 field steals respectively. Senior goalie Danielle Herrick had 23 saves and 11 steals. The high scorers for the boy’s team were Bobby Woolweaver with 8 goals, and Co- Captains Michael Braun and Max Bernau each with 5 goals. Peter Silkowski earned a team high of 6 assists this weekend. Defensive highlights included Michael Braun with 9 steals, Bobby Woolweaver with 7 steals and Peter Silkowski and Max Bernau both capturing 5 steals. Goalie Jake Spaulding had 18 saves and 8 steals and goalie Dustin Gathright had an additional 5 saves. |
