Have No Fear, Amy Crum Is Here!

Thursday, December 04, 2008 By Drew Hannah

Starting her career at Greenup County High School in 1994 as a grad. assistant, Amy Crum has seen her share of games. Through rain, sleet, snow, and/or hail, Crum attends every sporting event and practice at GCHS to give her knowledge, and assistance. Not only to the student athletes, but also to the coaches, assistant coaches, and parents. A 1988 graduate from Conner Senior High School in Hebron, KY., Crum was a track athlete, and that’s where she said her interest in athletic training began. “Being an athlete with injuries throughout my career, I wanted to help others like I had been,” Said Crum. Crum attended Marshall University where she spent six years as an undergraduate, and then another two years for graduate school. “I didn’t choose my major until late," said Crum. "I started in Pre Med. But then changed it to athletic training. I decided it was more of an experience working with athletes, which was what I wanted to do.” Crum’s favorite thing about GCHS and her time spent there she says are the kids. “ I like seeing their progression and desire after a minor injury or a major injury.” Said Crum. Crum has also had the privilege to work the 1996 NCAA Swimming, and Diving Championships. Then was invited back to work in the Olympic Trials in swimming, diving, and synchronized swimming. “It was funny, I had a Physical Therapist cover a football game here at Greenup County so I could go to the Diving Championship," said Crum. She also said that she hated it and that it was to intense for her, "I guess it’s not for everyone.” Crum resides in Greenup with her husband, Chris Crum, a 1989 graduate from GCHS. The two have been married for 10 years now. They were introduced to each other through Mrs. Hill when she was the coach of Greenup County softball. They now have two kids. Kristen age 9 and Nathanial age 2. Crum doesn’t plan on retiring any time soon. “I hope to continue working at Greenup County High School until I think it’s time to retire,” Said Crum. “Whether I will be running on and off the field in my 50s and 60s, I will just have to wait and see.”
