LHS Tennis Team Has Historic SeasonMonday, June 08, 2009 By Staff
The 2009 Boys Tennis Squad surpassed its all-time match wins with a 5-18 record this season. According to Coach Snyder, “The biggest factor for the wins was the overall for the team was the improvement of the team as a whole. We improved over last year’s team at every position. Junior Terron Morman and sophomore Jaime Bonilla made the biggest improvement.” Although the actual tennis “season” has ended for LHS, the work has just begun for the players themselves. Starting June 22, the players will meet three times a week here at the LHS courts to practice, and next winter during the pre-season, the players will be ramping up their training significantly. This year’s captains, Emmanuel Sabado and Terron Morman, provided a very strong work ethic. “They are good students and are always willing to help in any way they can,” said Coach Snyder. Rounding out the roster are seniors Matt Sykes, Van Chen, and Greg Still, and underclassmen Jean Bonilla, Javier Maldonado, Juan Rangel, Roberto Calderon, Chris Price, Joey Murray, Ricardo Martinez, Moises Ambriz, Niles Jones, Montez Smith, and Breyon Hopkins. The tennis team did not confine its “wins” to the tennis court alone. Along with their prowess on the court, this year’s players have a combined GPA of 3.0-3.1, impressive indeed, and one more asset that factors into being a “Winning Team!” |
