The Braddock Times
A letter of the Braddock familyWednesday, February 10, 2010 By PABLO TORREALBA
Sincere thanks to the students, staff, Debate Club, and NJROTC of G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. As most of you already know, my daughter Jaclyn Torrealba, a former student and graduate of Braddock’s class of 2009, was killed a few weeks ago. The pain and suffering that all of us close to Jackie have gone and continue to go through is beyond any explanation. In very difficult moments like these, the best help we may receive from our friends is in the form of simple gestures that bring us back to the comfort and warmth of normal, everyday life. We may still have to endure trials and tribulations, but the good wishes of the people around us are invaluable in the process of mending our broken hearts and healing our emotional wounds. I want all of you to know that there are not enough words to thank you for all the kindness, support, words of encouragement, and prayers that you so generously have offered me. From now on, I shall count as one of my many fortunes the fact that I am so lucky to work everyday with so many people whose noble and unselfish sense of compassion makes them, in every way, truly remarkable and extraordinary human beings. Your families and your loved ones have ample reason to smile and be proud of you, because you have demonstrated with your words and with your actions the qualities that can only be found in those with an immensely kind and wonderful heart. In particular to all Braddock students: I urge you to take care of yourselves and your friends and to be aware of your surroundings and those you associate with. If you find yourself in an abusive relationship, seek help from the adults in your life and don’t be afraid to confide in your parents. Remember that your safety is of utmost importance to them. In the memory of my dear daughter Jaclyn, and from my family and me, please accept our best wishes for you and your loved ones, and heartfelt thanks for everything you have done… it has been considerably more meaningful than you will ever imagine. Sincerely, Pablo Torrealba |
