Girls Track

This year the girl’s track team is looking forward to a fresh start with a young group of athletes. Losing a lot of girls from last year, the track team will be full of promising underclassmen. “We have a lot of young girls on the team this year,” said Matthew Michalski, girl’s track coach. “We’re going to have to work very hard this season.” Once the season starts Michalski wants to focus on conditioning so they will be better prepared for competition. Even though track is sometimes considered an individual sport, Michalski would also like to focus on making it more of a team-like environment. “I have a lot of faith in our team,” said Melody Jennings, senior. “As long as we try our hardest and focus more on being a team, it’ll be a great season.” This year the indoor track team had a much larger turnout than last year, which makes the upcoming outdoor season look very promising. The fact that many of these girls have been training since January will definitely benefit the team. “It’s pretty tough to get motivated during the indoor season,” said Jennings. “But once the ball gets rolling on outdoor track I think we’ll have a great season.” Returning athletes such as juniors Claira Himmel and Katie Gross and senior Melody Jennings are looking to make this upcoming track season a successful one. Hard work and dedication, they say, will be the keys to success. “We know what we have to do to be successful,” said Himmel. “People need to come everyday and really focus and train hard.”
