Homecoming & Freshmen

Friday, October 01, 2010 By Tom Czajka

With October just starting most sophomores, juniors, and seniors are beginning to make plans for the upcoming homecoming festivities. But unlike the upperclassmen, the naive freshmen boys had asked for dates in the middle of September. From a friend’s prior experience, asking way to early is never a good idea, yet asking way to late isn’t either. Story is pretty simple Boy asks Girl to homecoming, Girl agrees, Boy’s friend is jealous or wanted to ask her too. So the friend begins to pester the girl about going with the boy, and in the end the girl decides that she is not going with the boy after all. The moral of the story? Asking someone way to early can give them ample time to decide to dump you and find another date. From the chitter-chatter of the freshmen girls within the halls and lunchroom about how many girls a boy has asked and how is supposed to ask who, how and when all one can hope for is that next year the now freshmen will understand the proper time to ask. Another note about homecoming, guys and girls need to relax (this is primarily towards the freshmen though). Homecoming is just a dance, you’re not finding your soul mate or how Mr. Finnell would put it “your love connection.” Just find someone you want to ask, think of a way to ask her, and do it. Easy as pie and now you’ll enjoy yourself at a Fenwick Dance.
