Creative Writing Sparks Memories

Tuesday, October 19, 2010 By Danica Person

The Creative Writing classes focus on all kinds of writing, from poetry to memoirs, they write their own stories off of emotion, thoughts, and their own reasoning. David was one of many friends of Robert Gonzalez, who died on September 27 th in a car accident. Written in Mrs. Fernalds Creative Writing class, 4 th period, he portrayed his feelings and memories into this poem. Prompts help direct students on their writing. Magnetic poetry involves rearranging a given set of words to create something with meaning. Katlyn Viers uses this style to write "When They Were Young." to tell of a person’s m emory of kids growing up. In Loving Memory When I think That you’re not here Then I sink In sudden fear My face blood red You’re a thing of the past But in my head You won’t be the last I know you’re there In the bright blue skies My insides tear I just wish these were lies Till the day I die You will be in my heart I can’t help but to cry So I guess I should start In loving memory of Robert By David Mitchell When They Were Young Do you remember when they were young? They were full of joy and didn’t keep secrets Now they’re women and men, not girls and boys The wear perfume and have lip piercings They look like porcelain dolls and drink what they should not. You’re hopping she’ll come home at night And that he’ll stop doing drugs You’re sick with worry, Your smile translucent All you do is look out your window and try to remember When they were young By Katlyn Viers
