Cross country places at District CompetitionMonday, November 08, 2010 By Keely Fortin, Staff Writer
The cross country season is in full stride this time of year. The team has many meets planned for this season, including the one this past weekend at Corinth where they took second place in the 6A category. With this accomplishment under their belts, their next goal was to place among the top schools in the District meet set for Tuesday, October 19 th at Center Hill High School where the girls placed first and the boys placed third. To do this, they had to train even harder, practicing constantly. Members of the team can be seen running the grueling 3.1 mile race around the school campus either before or after school. But this sport is a lot more difficult than most people realize. There is more to it than just getting out there and running a few miles, it takes a lot of determination and self-motivation. “You have to be very mentally tough. It’s all about setting personal goals and pushing yourself to achieve them,” says Cady Herring, a sophomore on the team. This really goes to show the mental strength as well as the physical ability it takes to be one of the top runners in this unique, individualized sport. |
