Choir Students Sing On

Monday, November 29, 2010 By Lisa Slaikeu

The fall Choir Concert occurred on a slightly chilly Monday, October 11. Concert Chorale started off the concert with the lyrical piece“If Music Be the Food of Love,” which introduced the theme of the night: “If Music be the food of love..... Sing on!” Then top Spring Lake Park choir the Parkaires sang “Embraceable You,” and Varsity Chorus did “A Joyful Song ‘Sing Unto God’” and “Down to the River to Pray.” The latter, a folk song, featured Evan Ihde and Kirstyn Harasyn as soloists. Next came the Park Singers, who performed “Rainstorm” and “Shine on Me” with a gospel solo by Ezekiel Miller. He was the only soloist of the evening to receive immediate applause after his solo. After that, the Parkaires came on once again, with the Beatles’ “In My Life” as a tribute to John Lennon. That song had Haley Peterson and J.C. Stroebel as soloists that would have made John Lennon proud. Finally, the Concert Chorale finished off the concert with a song from the Bambuti tribe in Congo, “Nzembo Na Mvula Zamba (Song of the Rainforest),” which had Skylar Cary on congas, Dominic McFadden on guitar, and Donny Kirksey on bass. Overall, the night was pleasant and the choirs are off to a great year.
