Social Sites or Danger Zones?

Tuesday, December 14, 2010 By Kristine Bromley

Today, some of the biggest dangers we have are cell phones and the usage of the internet. Many people don’t realize the kind of trouble they can get themselves into when they aren’t careful about their personal information such as cell phone numbers and addresses. A lot of people who have Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace pages post their numbers on these sites along with other information. While there are some precautions that can be taken, such as blocking their pages, they still never can be sure just who may hack their page and get their phone number and other information. Also, there's always the risk that your information may be re-posted by someone who doesn't have their page blocked. Dangers of the internet that affect children are inappropriate content, cyber bullying, and child predators. Other dangers are malicious software, and credit card fraud/scams. What community, even our own, cannot say that tragedy has struck directly or indirectly because of cell phone misuse or social site problems? The basic message is, be careful of what you post and whom you’re talking to on the internet. People are often not who they seem to be, and you don’t want the wrong person getting your personal information.
