Kamil ProuzaTuesday, February 01, 2011 By Mariana Valdivia
[Editor’s note: Kamil moved to St. Johns High School on Monday, January 24. It turns out that he was staying with his host family on a temporary basis that was supposed to last only two weeks at most. Due to circumstances beyond his control, he stayed for five months, while requesting a transfer to a full-time family. His transfer came when a host family was found. Unfortunately for us, that family is in another town. He said he will miss the people here in Warden. We hope to hear back from him so we can report how he is doing in St. Johns.] Kamil Prouza is 17 years old. He came from Czech Republic for four reasons: First to know the way of life here in the United States; second, to know how the school was here in Warden; third, to see if he can handle a situation by himself without his family and his close friends, and finally fourth, to learn English. Kamil doesn’t have a favorite sport because where he lives they don’t have school teams like basketball, baseball, wrestling, etc. they only have P.E. two times a week. For fun he likes hanging out with his friends and going to the theaters. Kamil stated that the school here is different in many ways. The way they teach is easier here There, they have longer breaks between classes of 10 minutes each. School is from 8:00a.m to 2:15p.m, and they don’t have lunch during school. They have to wait to eat until after school. Kamil also stated that the people here in Warden High School are nicer than the ones at his school. He suggests that people shouldn’t judge others before they get to know them or by the way they look and that they shouldn’t believe the gossip or rumors that aren’t true. What Kamil will miss about Warden High School are the late starts, some friends, and some teachers. Kamil will be leaving in June and he is planning to go back and finish his last year at his high school. After he graduates he wants to go to a university. He isn’t sure what he wants to be yet, but for sure he doesn’t want to be a doctor, because he thinks it’s nasty how they operate on people. Finally Kamil stated that during the time he has spent here in the United States he has realized that you should appreciate your family and friends because you can loose them anytime. |
