Stokes has high hopes for team to return to stateFriday, February 11, 2011 By Charde'a Bell-Taylor
"My goal as a team is to just keep winning games and win city conference,” said Stokes, who plays on varsity. Stokes averages 7.6 points per game for the Generals, who are 15-2 overall and 6-2 in city conference. Stokes, interested in basketball since age four, commits himself to the sport. “My grandfather bought me a basketball court when I was four. Since then I’ve always liked basketball,” Stokes said. Being on a basketball team allows Stokes to see different places and people. “I love basketball. I get to travel a lot of places and meet a lot of new people that I wouldn’t meet on a regular basis,” Stokes said. Stokes is also a dedicated student. “I stay on my grades. My grades are as important as basketball is to me. Academics and basketball go hand in hand,” Stokes said. Stokes’ favorite teacher Craig Machut appreciates Stokes as basketball player and an engaging student. “He’s a great person. He’s engaging and has an upbeat personality,” Machut said. “[Stokes] is a very talented athlete and a dedicated student.” Teammate junior Jihad Jackson values Stokes’ skills and his personality. “I think [Stokes] is very intelligent when it comes to basketball. He has a great IQ for the game. He’s an excellent teammate,” Jackson said. After high school Stokes hopes to obtain a career in sports marketing or join the NBA as a professional basketball player. |
