Boys Look For Success

Tuesday, February 15, 2011 By Mikaela French

At any given moment one can hear almost any high school boy cracking a joke. They are usually laughing and messing around. But some take one thing very seriously, basketball. Twenty-one boys play basketball, fifteen of who play varsity. According to Coach Drake, the boy’s basketball team this year was predicted with only one win. They lost four starters and most people didn’t expect much success in their games this year. Right now the boys have won six games and they have lost nine games. Sophomore Tanner Anderson said, “We have a young team. I’m not using that as an excuse but as a push to keep getting better.” Anderson went on to explain that defense and hustle is a big part of their game style this year. In the home game against West Central, Anderson had seven steals, one short of tying the school record. Another highlight from this game was Sophomore Tanner Settles’ game winning basket. Settles said, “The best part of the season so far was our win against West Central. We worked really great together as a team and making the last shot was really awesome.” The team is always trying to push forward. Sophomore Austin Krier said, “This year, our team is doing great. We improve with every game and practice; I think by the end of the year, we will be a very strong force.” Senior Tyler Husby said, “Our team is different than it was last year, but I still enjoy playing with these guys. We know when to be serious, but we still manage to have a lot of fun at practice and games.”
