Volleyball season comes to a successful closeWednesday, March 02, 2011 By Jacqueline Taliercio
McIntosh’s chiefs girls volleyball team finished up their season with amazing records! Varsity finished with a 34-17 record and advanced to the second round of state. Coach Weaver is proud of the varsity team and comments on their accomplishments: "[All the teams] played and improved like we expected them to. Varsity ended their season very well. They ranked fifth in state and made it to the second round in the state tournament." Some varsity members were given special recognition. Those recognized for the 2010 All Area Team include Maya Mitchell, Rhegan Mitchell, and Jill Steinwedel; for the 2010 GVCA Senior All Star Team, Maya Mitchell was recognized; for 2010 GVCA All State Team, Rhegan Mitchell and Maya Mitchell received honorable mentions. As for the JV volleyball team, they finished the season with their best record yet, 25-1! Coach Weaver is excited for the future "with such a great JV program coming up." The freshman team did well, too, and finished with a 9-9 record. Coach Weaver expects a lot from the freshman team because it has "lots of young talent." There were 16 freshman in the volleyball program. Coach Weaver expects the freshman "to step up and fill the roles of the graduating seniors and just keep improving." |
