Thursday, April 14, 2011 By Mike LeBegue

Astoria High School’s Econ Challenge students led by Mr. Doug Banwart participated in the Personal Finance Challenge at the Federal Reserve in Chicago on April 7, 2011, from 8 A.M. until 2 P.M. Seniors Justin Malott and Sam Webb and Juniors Dalton Hammond and Jesse Tarvin left school at 2 P.M. on the 6th and took Mr. Banwart’s car for the trip to Chicago. They stopped at a McDonald’s for refreshments along the way before reaching the Union League Club Hotel, where they spent the night checking out four different restaurants, finally choosing Miller’s Pub for dinner. Then they swam, played basketball, and played Call of Duty on Playstation 3, and were in bed by 12:30. The next morning began at 7:40. They walked to the Federal Reserve Building where they participated in three rounds and a trivia round open to all participants in order to win prizes. Astoria placed tenth out of twenty-one teams and were not in the final round, which they watched before walking to Willis Tower before heading home. They went up to the skydeck, but it was too foggy to see much.
