Wrapping up their season with a third place finish at state, the girls tennis team stayed strong throughout the season. With five first place wins this season, the girls are feeling great about this year. “I think our team did really well this season. We won a couple of tournaments and the ones we didn’t win we placed high,” Paige Anderson, jr., said. The team started off its season by placing first at home on Sept. 2. They then went on to compete at Wichita Collegiate, finishing in fourth and Salina Central where they placed second. While competing at Hesston, Emporia and then again at McPherson, they captured first place titles. The girls took home third place at AVCTL on Oct. 4. AVCTL was held at Wichita Riverside. At Regionals Anderson placed third, the team of Chelsea Ronsse, jr., and Amanda Gayer, fr., took first and the team of Amy Schlesinger,sr., and Jenna Rader,sr., placed sixth. As a team they took home the regional championship title. State was held in Ark City on Oct. 15 and 16. The girls grabbed third place. Individual places were Anderson, 11th, Ronsse and Gayer, 4th, and Schlesinger and Rader, 6th. “I was really excited about how we did at State because heading to state I was thinking that we could probably get about fifth or sixth, but when we got third it was really exciting,” Anderson said.
