Prom: A Night to RememberMonday, May 02, 2011 By Ayla Oden
Prom is a night to remember for high school graduates. It’s the magical finale to four years of hard, stressful, drama filled school. Disney came out with their own version of the perfect night in their new movie Prom , which opened in theaters on April 29 th . I was excited to see the movie, being a fan of Disney’s work, so I was first in line to a matinee on opening day. As a girl, I fell in love with the innocent characters and cliché 80s movie spin on high school. Prom is about a number of students in their final year of high school; the smart and impressive, Nova, the bad boy, Jessie, the awkward guy, Lloyd, and more. The movie follows a number of students’ stories as they prepare for the dance. Each story reminded us of an over used but lovable cliché situation. Will the good girl fall for the bad boy? Will the junior high sweethearts break up as they prepare to go to different colleges? Will the popular girl discover her boyfriend is cheating on her? Because the movie had a light and enjoyable storyline, I didn’t have to worry about my parents walking in on the “wrong part.” The movie portrayed high school as a typical high school student’s experience. The movie did not include any portrayals of sex, drug use, or criminal offenses like so many TV shows and movies do. Although I loved this movie, a boy’s perspective may differ. The movie was a girl anthem but a boy’s worst nightmare. It’s the type of movie a girlfriend drags her boyfriend to against his will. Because the movie only appeals to a select few, I’m awarding it with three out of five panther paws. If you love other Disney movies like 17 Again, High School Musical , and Tangled, then you’ll fall in love with Prom too! |
