Perfect @ PoynetteTuesday, September 20, 2011 By Heidi Voigt
The Lakeside Lutheran Cross Country teams continued to run strongly last Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the Poynette Invitational. They had to overcome many obstacles. One of these obstacles was that they had a full day of school before the meet. Also, there was a 45 minute drive to Poynette. In the course the runners had to conquer running through sand and a steep hill. There were many more teams at this race, conference teams especially. This allowed Lakeside to get a good look at Poynette, Lake Mills, and Columbus. The teams at the Poynette Invitational were split into a large division and small division, and Lakeside was in the large division. The boys’ Cross Country team was able to take first place in the large division and overall. The boys also saw Marshall at this meet, who they will face in the sectionals race. For the second time this season, Grey Davis led the team by earning first place overall with a time of 17:29. The girls’ Cross Country team was able to do the same thing, taking first place in the large division and overall. Because of the way the Lakeside girls have been running, they are ranked 11 th in state in Division 2 (wisconsinrunner.com).Sarah Hackbarth was the first Lakeside runner and earned 2 nd place overall with a time of 17:24. The front pack ran very well with Natalie Bubolz taking 3 rd place overall and Hannah Shiels received 4 th place overall. The first conference meet is in Poynette. Therefore, the Poynette Invitational allowed the LLHS Cross Country team to inspect the course before the first meet on Tuesday, September 20. However, Lakeside has still not competed against Luther Prep. Lakeside will see Luther Prep at their next meet in St. Lawrence tomorrow. Both the girls’ and boys’ Lakeside teams will see Division 2 State Ranked team Freedom.
