Tuesday, October 18, 2011 By Alyssa March

Her chosen super power: the ability to teleport to any place and time. That is only one interesting fact about one of Fallston’s newest teachers, Mrs.McAteer. “When I first came in, everyone was so helpful and friendly,” said Mrs. McAteer. “I felt so welcomed.” Mrs. McAteer grew up in Eastern Shore, Maryland and attended Catonsville High School. In high school, she played both field hockey and lacrosse. She later went on to play lacrosse at Duquesne University and afterwards continued to study at Loyola where she received her Master’s Degree in Modern Studies. Before coming to Fallston, Mrs.McAteer taught at Catonsville High School for seven years where she also coached both varsity teams of field hockey and women’s lacrosse after playing them in high school. In 2004 and 2008, she helped guide her lacrosse team to Championships where they took the title. She now teaches 10 th grade world history and LCW classes. “I’m excited for World History,” said Mrs.McAteer. “It is a change from U.S. History and it’s fun to do something different.” Students in Mrs.McAteer’s World History classes can look forward to an exciting year. She is planning activities such as a pilgrimage through Medieval Europe and having students contract the Black Plague. Not only is Mrs.McAteer a creative teacher inside the classroom, but she is also an exciting person outside of school. “I lived in Vancouver, Canada for three years and I even saw Shaun White win gold at the Winter Olympics,” she said. She also has a husband from Ireland, and together they visit the country every other summer. Mrs. McAteer also continues to play lacrosse and enjoys running with her dog Bailey. Mrs. McAteer became a teacher because she loves kids and working with them. “I absolutely love history and sports, too,” said Mrs. McAteer. “School seemed like a great way to combine and be able to do both.” Mrs.McAteer said that by the end of the year, she hopes her students will learn that “there are multiple perspectives for everything and in order to fully understand a situation, you must look from each and every perspective.” More About McAteer Favorite Food: Spaghetti with Meatballs or Mexican Food Favorite Color: Purple Favorite Book: Water for Elephants Favorite Movie: The Fighter Pet Peeve: When people interrupt Life Motto: “You get out of something what you put in.”
