Teen Moms Love Having Kids So Young

Wednesday, November 09, 2011 By Miranda Reed and Maggie Shubert

Six ACES students are teen moms. Why do you think so many teens are having kids? All the teen moms at ACES seem to agree it’s because they were bored and there was nothing better to do. On Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 three ACES teen moms shared how they felt when they found out they were pregnant. ”It wasn’t the worst thing that could have happened.” said Kelsey Campbell who is due on Valentines day . Another teen didn’t quite feel the same way: “I was scared and excited all at the same time,” said Allie Roberts whose daughter is 18 months . Jessica Hudock, another one of our mommies at ACES, kind of had the same reaction to finding out as Allie did. “I was stricken. I was but wasn’t scared, surprised, worried, and then finally happy when I finally saw my son Terry Francis Wood the fourth who is 6 months,” said Jessica. On the other hand, Miranda wasn’t worried, scared, or anything from the start.“Being a teen mom myself, I remember my favorite thing was having my belly. I loved having a baby belly; it was so exciting and different being able to feel Hayden move and kick. It was the coolest thing when I could see the whole outline of her foot when she’d push against my stomach,“ said Miranda Reed who’s daughter, Hayden Morgan Hackl, is 1 year 5 months and 18 days old. Jessica loved her baby belly as much as Miranda.“Heck, yeah... I loved being pregnant because I liked my belly and feeling him move,” said Jessica. Kelsey Campbell also thinks it’s cool, having a belly and being pregnant. “Yes, I like being pregnant because it feels cool and people let me do things before them like go to the bathroom,” said Kelsey. Allie Roberts didn’t feel the same way as all the others. She didn’t like being pregnant or having a baby bump. “No, because I felt fat and gross with my huge stomach,” said Allie. Seeing your child for the first time is a blessing, the greatest moment of your lifetime. These three teen moms agreed with that for the most part. “I was happy and excited, but very tired,” said Jessica. Most of the girls have the same feeling as Jessica. “I cried when I saw Tina Marie Faith Cripps for the first time.” said Allie Roberts Being a mother is a great job. Mothers that stay at home for there kids instead of working, they like it much better. “I love being a mom...its such a life changing experience, but so much fun at the same time.” said Miranda. It is definitely a life changing experience. Part of what makes it fun is the little things. “Yes I do, I love being a mom because I like seeing him smile when I come home,” said Jessica. In addition to smiles, there’s always fun to be had with a child. “Yes I do like being a mom, because it’s kind of like an adventure, You get to teach her and learn with her,” said Allie. But what’s the best thing about being a mom? There are so many to pick from. Jessica and Allie both had a hard time picking just one thing. “I can’t really pick one thing because I love everything about being a mommy,” said Jessica. Allie realized she likes one specific aspect best. “Being able to learn from each other and she’s mine no one can take her from me,“ said Allie. Many teens can’t keep their child after giving birth, because their parents don’t believe they should have the responsibility. Parents think teenagers should live somewhere else if they have a child because they don’t want to hear the baby at night and deal with the crying and such things. “Yes, we kept him and were living with my boyfriend Terry, and his parents,” said Jessica.Allie got to keep her daughters too. “I kept her, and I still live with my parents,” said Allie. Would you think it’d be different having a kid at such a young age..? “It’s different because I can’t do what I want to anymore...I have to look out for her, not just me,” said Allie Roberts. Looking after a toddler takes a lot of energy from you. “It is different having a kid at such a young age, but I feel I have more energy for him. Unlike if I was older I’d be less active and willing to play around with him, I’m sure I wouldn’t still be here in Alpena if I hadn’t had him” said Jessica. It’s not always a bad thing to have a child at such a young age. These girls seem to be doing a good job at handling themselves while having a child to tend to every waking moment that their home.
