Turner Today
Russian teachers and students came to Turner Friday, November 18, 2011 By Victoria Malloy
On Nov. 17, a group of Russian students and teachers came to the English classes of Turner to learn about the diverse students and teachers of America. "They came to learn about things from different people," said English teacher Mr. Bally. The Russians came from a small town called Volsk. Even though the Russians had a language barrier issue, everything went smoothly for both the Russian and American teachers. "I think [the Russians] want to see a diverse cross-section of America, which they'll definitely get at Turner," said English teacher Ms. Mueggenborg. The type of Russian students that arrived were juniors and seniors, but in their country they are technically college students. Having both students and teachers from Russia on campus was a great chance for Turner teachers and students to learn about teaching methods on the other side of the world. βI really liked it when they came to Turner,β said senior Pamela Underwood. The Russians were very surprised that Turner has 2500 students. Their school has 500 students. "I think being exposed to anything completely new is like trying to drink from a fire hose," Ms. Mueggenborg said. "There's only so much a person can take in at once." βIt was interesting," said junior Sarah Yarbrough. "They are just like us.β |
