“What do you like to do in your spare time?” is a never ending question that teens are frequently asked. Some students enjoy simply going home and resting after school while others have a list of after school activities long enough to keep them busy for a multitude of years. Between field hockey, piano lessons, and performing in the Hazamir choir, Kira Kilsten’s (’15), and Hannah Stoler’s (’15) schedules are jam- packed with extracurricular activities. Although Kira and Hannah are new members to the girls varsity field hockey team as freshmen, they both share an interest in music as well. “I recently became a member of the Hazamir Jewish choir which is a great way to meet new people while doing something that I love,” Hannah said. The Hazamir Choir allows high school singers to become members of a pleasurable and enlightening experience. The choir allows thriving artists to show their potential while becoming more comfortable with the stage. “I love being a part of the Hazamir choir. The songs we get to perform have great morals, and are feel-good songs,” Kira said. On top of the two hours that the Hazamir Choir requires weekly of Kira and Hannah’s hectic after school schedule. It also requires a lot of outside practice, dedication, and hard work in order to prepare for major performances such as the annual event at Carnegie Hall in New York City. “Along with being a member of the Hazamir Choir I have studied piano at Peabody Prepatory for the past eight years,” Hannah said. “Having studied piano for so long has helped me in the choir to maintain pitch, stay in key, and hit the different notes throughout the songs.” Between school work, field hockey, the Hazamir Choir, and piano, Kira and Hannah are always on the run. “I really enjoy being a part of so many different after school activities,” Kira said. “It allows me to meet new people that have the same interests as me while helping me wind down after a stressful day at school.”
