Tuesday, December 13, 2011 By Hayley Foster

Keyser High's marching band held their first annual band competition, Cadence in the Valley, at Keyser's Alumni Stadium on Saturday, September, 24th. Maryland and West Virginia bands came to compete, although for Keyser it was an exhibition. All members took three weeks (one each for percussion, drill, and band) out of their summer break to practice this year's show, "Eclipse". Bob Hamilton, Mary Catherine Hamilton, Katie Capaldi, J.T. Costillow, Emily Jackson, Christopher Warrick, and Suzanne Warrick, the director, helped the kids pull the show together. Keyser High's band was number one in all of West Virginia in the Group Two Open Class. After this, The KHS band traveled to the Tornament of Bands competition, where they were seeded eighteenth in all of the Atlantic Coast. Keyser's Drum Majors scored ninteenth. Both woodwinds and brass placed twentieth in the competition. Percussion ranked twelfth. The general ensamble was fifteenth over all. The band's overall score was an 87.2.
