Learning The Way of Art.Wednesday, January 25, 2012 By jessica helms
The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection - Michelangelo- Donneka Bradford is an art teacher at South Side High School. “I graduated from Fisk University with Bachelors of Science in Art. I got my master’s degree from UT Martin with a Masters of Art in Education,” said Ms. Bradford. Bradford’s passion for art made her want to be an art teacher. “My love of art and my love for working with young people just made it the most suitable profession for me,” said Ms. Bradford. Ms. Bradford tries her best to inspire and make her kids comfortable in her class. “Ms. Bradford was one of my favorite teachers,” said Courtney Hood. “I try to encourage them to do their best at all times, and always try to make myself available for them when extra help is needed. Sometimes a little "tough love" has to be used as well to get the full potential of my students to shine,” said Ms. Bradford. Out of all of the projects she does in her class, she has her favorites. “The final project is my favorite project. I love seeing how all the art concepts come alive from just an idea, then a drawing, to a 3D model. I just love to see students light up when they can see all their hard work form into a successful final piece,” said Bradford. “My favorite project in art last year was definitely the final project,” said Hood. Bradford has had an art background and she tries to intersect art with everything she possibly can. “I have always loved art! Since I was a little girl it has always been a passion of mine. I was the weird kid not asking for toys and clothes, but poster board and water color. As I got older I'd get in trouble in class because I drew my notes out. It wasn’t until I explained what each drawing had to do with class that teachers didn't mind me drawing EXCEPT in math. There was no way around that!“ said Ms. Bradford. Ms. Bradford said, "I was 25 when I began.” |
