Signing for Something New

With only three and a half months of school left, seniors are now faced with one of the biggest decisions they will ever make in their life. Mary Katherine Jabbia, a fellow senior, is ahead of the game as she makes her life alternating decision to sign with Brenau University an all-girls college in Gainsville, Georgia. Although not many people have heard of Brenau University, its academic and athletic level exceeds other colleges by far. Jabbia was offered a “full ride”, or a scholarship in both academics and athletics. Since she was 5 years old, Jabbia has been splashing and kicking around in the water so making the decision to continue her sport throughout college was an easy decision. “Choosing to swim in college was a big decision, but I’ve been doing it so long, I couldn’t imagine stopping now,” Jabbia says. However, Brenau University was not Jabbia’s first choice; there were other colleges she had in mind. Two weeks ago, Jabbia traveled a dreary fourteen hours all the way to west Illinois to take a tour of a college offering her a scholarship. “Brenau offered more than any other college. Although that wasn’t the ultimate reason why I decided to go, it played a major factor,” Jabbia explains. Seven hours might seem like a lot, but compared to other colleges, it only seems logical to pick Brenau. “The distance isn’t bothering me now, but once I get there, I’m sure I’ll miss everyone! I’m looking forward to the experience; I can’t wait to make new friends and new memories.” Jabbia says as she reminisces on her past four years at Northshore. I believe I can speak on the behalf of everyone here at Northshore when I say we will truly miss Jabbia’s enlightening smile in the hallways. Nonetheless, she is an outstanding example of what hard work can lead to. With her outgoing and sweet personality, her college experience should go swimmingly.
