“Varsity men finished in a three way tie with Southern Vance and Hillsboro-Orange,” varsity men’s coach Wilton Baskett said. “Then on the draw, assistant coach Q. Daniels was the good luck charm as he pulled out the #4 seed.” Northern faced Southern in the first round play of the Carolina 3A conference tournament, Mon. Feb. 13. Northern needed the win to stay alive in the conference, according to Kellen Holtzman of The Daily Dispatch. Northern’s Feb. 10, loss to Southern created a three-way tie in the Carolina 3A Conference tied Southern, Northern and Orange for fourth place, Holtzman said. “The season has been full of many disappointments and thrills,” Baskett said. “Armani Williams has filled the charts with blocks and dunks, while Le”Darius Brandon has developed into a very good floor general. No matter what the outcome the Vikings have been represented well with hustle, skills and determination.” The loss to Southern marked the end of Northern’s basketball season. “It was an unfair game; we should have played harder as a team,” junior Le’Darius Brandon said. “We have a lot of work to do, we have to stay FOCUSed.” I really thought this game was over rated and unfair,” senior Nigel Wood said. “We should have given it our all at the beginning of the game and maintained our FOCUS.”
