Dear Calli, In class and when I walk down the hall I can’t help but notice the body odor. Can you please give some advice to the guys and girls that are filling my nose every day? -Odor Frustrated Yes, one cannot help but notice the smells that waft to their nose in the halls or in class. During high school, student’s bodies develop and change. The changes can be gross and hard to deal with at times. One of the most noticeable changes is body odor. Body odor can be experienced by anyone- male or female. Generally young male’s body odor can be more pungent than females but both should still take measures to prevent a smelly day. There are many different options to stop or prevent body odor and those measures should be taken as early as elementary school. Most students are given deodorant in 5 th grade and should be well practiced by middle school and professionals by high school. Steps to take in prevention of body odor are: 1- Shower regularly. Shower away sweat and bacteria to prevent bacteria. 2- Use deodorants or antiperspirants. Using antiperspirants prevent the sweat that causes body odor. Also using a deodorant masks the odor and fight bacteria from breeding. Deodorant is usually considered the most important part to preventing body odor and being accepted into society. 3- Wash your clothes regularly- Sweat seeps into clothing, causing a residual smell to remain. And once the sweat has dried, fibers in the clothes become damaged. Following the 3 steps daily can prevent smelling badly and prevent any uncomfortable glances or comments. For the students who have to endure the smell, politely encouraging the 3 steps can prevent any further smells being forced into your nose. Sincerely, Calli
