Despite the lack of snow this season, the Central ski girls have a record of 7-1 and a 4th place at the State Meets, while the boys team has a record of 4-4. “We had to delay one meet against Northern. We hope that winter comes soon— we still have another month of races to get through,” said ski team coach Timothy McBride. Usually there is enough snow to ski, but this year the lack of snow caused a serious disturbance in winter sports, even though and Alpine Valley was making snow so that the skiers could ski. The girls’ team has a record of 7-1 and is working works really hard to keep their good record. The boys’ team works really hard too, and has a record of 4-4. The girls’ team closed their successful season in 4th place at the State Meet in Boyne Highlands on February 27 after winning Alpine Valley Division, KLAA League and their MHSAA Region. “We beat Northern, which is really good,” said junior Clarissa Baumgarten. On the weekend of the January 28 and 29, the ski team attended the Lakeland Invitational, which is a big ski meet, and left with success. The girls’ team won and the boys’ team took 4th place,” said McBride. Junior Mallory Slicker won the slalom and she also succeeded in taking second place in the giant slalom. Senior Brian Seigrest on the boys’ team took the 7th place in the giant slalom. McBride is proud of his teams. “The girls worked hard to win the meet, putting 4 girls in the top 7 for both events.”
