West Franklin Voice
Musicians bound for state contestFriday, April 20, 2012 By Evan Woodbury
After checking all of their instruments, packing their bags, loading up numerous black padded cases, and a sitting on a long bus ride, 14 West Franklin High School Band members were ready to compete in the Kansas State High School Activities Association Regional Band Tournament. They traveled to the main campus of Neosho County Community College in Chanute on March 31 to participate in this competition. After a long day of playing and competing, six students excelled and rose to the top to make it to the state competition with all their hard work. Wyatt Gilbert and A. J. Campbell playing trumpet, Shelbi Allen playing French Horn, Tiffani Montano and Tobie Roberts playing baritone, and Forrest Fowler playing tuba, all received a one rating on their brass sextet. Fowler also received a one rating on his tuba solo, making it to state as a single. “These students had great self-discipline in getting their stuff together,” said West Franklin High School Band Director Nathan Craft. “All of the motivation came from them.” The six students will travel to Southeast of Saline High School on Saturday, April 29 to compete in the state competition. |
