The tournament consisted of 11 teams playing games of basketball to 11 points. The first team to score 11 points won the game. The format for the tournament was to be “round-robin” format until every team played each other. After that, the four top teams moved into the playoffs. The playoff bracket would play to decide a champion. Ninth graders Gabriel Donowa and Stephen Baker participated in the tournament. They finished with 3 wins and 8 losses. In a joint statement, they said, “It was fun even though we lost most of our games. Hopefully, we’ll do better next year.” The tournament at McFatter is held to celebrate the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Basketball tournament. The tournament is a single elimination format competition with the top 68 teams in the nation. The teams are seeded 1-16 and play for a spot in the Final Four and a chance at the National Title. This year, number one overall seed Kentucky Wildcats defeated the Kansas Jayhawks in the National Championship game in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kentucky defeated Louisville in the Final Four, and Kansas defeated Ohio State in their Final Four game. Stephen Baker is also an Ohio State fan. When asked his thoughts on the tournament, he replied, “It was tough to see my team lose, but I knew they couldn’t beat Kentucky even if they had won.”
